As part of its work on supporting the collection and use of patient and client demographic data in the Toronto Central LHIN, Mount Sinai Hospital hosted a workshop, “Measuring Health Equity in Toronto Central LHIN CHCs: Fall 2015 Workshop,” which brought 17 CHCs together to share their experiences with demographic data collection. The content of the workshop was developed through updates conducted in September and October 2015 with each CHC.
This workshop brought together staff members from CHCs in various roles (management, data management coordinators, and front line workers) to share strategies, tips, and tools for collecting and analyzing client demographic data. Presenters shared first-hand experience of the successes and challenges of implementing demographic data collection in their organizations, strategies on how to improve the quality of data collected, and how they expanded their collection practices. Participants also had the opportunity to break out into smaller groups to discuss the potential uses of the data collected, innovative ways data is already being used, and challenges with data collection.
